Description
THE LEADWOOD SUITE
The suite showcases unique, hand-crafted bowls created with leadwood sourced from a farmer in Limpopo.
The Design Details
Each element at Xigera tells a story of craftsmanship and culture:
- Imbizo Dining Table by Chuma Maweni, featuring hand-thrown ceramic legs and carved kiaat timber top, symbolizing “gathering” in Xhosa.
- Kassena Server by Dokter and Misses, with bold patterns inspired by adobe architecture from the Ghana-Burkina Faso border.
- Ardmore Bedside Lamps, hand-sculpted to reflect the wildlife and flora of Moremi, each lamp a unique expression.
- Ebonised Fork Sculpture by Adam Birch, carved on-site from fallen trees with support from local carpenters.
- Ceramic Stools by Atang Tshikare, etched with symbolic Tswana motifs—Ngwana (child), Ngwedi (moon), Ngaka (shaman).
- “Further in Further Out” by Chris Soal, created from repurposed Johannesburg bottle tops.
- Heartwood Bowls, hand-crafted from Limpopo leadwood, each one a standalone piece of African design.
- Bronze Bowls by Charles Haupt, patinated and gilded with gold leaf, echoing natural growth forms.
- Ceramic Tableware by Chuma Maweni, individually hand-thrown and glazed, created exclusively for Xigera.
- Ebonised Walnut Bed by Duchenne cabinetry, with bronze lily finials and bespoke European fabric headboards.
- African Jacquard Bedspread, custom-made to harmonize with the suite’s palette.
- Timber Wardrobe by Otto du Plessis, with brass doors etched with Delta-inspired botanical illustrations.
